James E. Long was resident director and general manager of the Guerrero Iron and Timber Company and the Guerrero Development Company of the State of Guerrero, Mexico, until the Revolution. During World War I he was appointed as Major in the U.S. Engineering Corps, and later as a Colonel he was the Purchase and Engineering Officer of the General Engineer Depot at Washington D.C.
